The crypt, build in the IXth century, is a great legacy from the carolingian Renaissance. Thinly sculpted capitals, IXth century wooden beams and the oldest frescoes of France, are to be seen inside. Cemetery for many bishops of Auxerre, the crypt welcomes around twenty sarcophagus including the one belonging to Saint Germain of Auxerre, from the Vth century.

From the Vth century to nowadays, many voices echoed these walls. Saint Germain’s voice, the one of the greatest speaker of his time. The voices of the monastic schoolmasters, which spread accross Europe. And of course the voices of all the monks. This tour gives the opportunity to listen to those voices while discovering the monastic buildings, including the crypt.
